DIY series

DIY Salon Spa Series: Having a salon and spa, you need to think of new innovative ways to make your business appealing and creative to gain more product sales or to keep your customer retention. One simple way is to show your customers that you are capable of making something for their treatment that they can either take home as a gift or to purchase afterwards, or have handmade luxury items as a special touch of aesthetics in your facility.

These items can consist of lotions, oils, scrubs, masks, etc. You can either purchase pre-made items with chemicals or unknown unnatural ingredients, or you can make something yourself with all natural ingredients and label it as handmade from your business. Read our first blog, DIY Essential Oils.

From all readers of our last DIY blog, DIY Tanning Enhancers, and most readers voted: Body Wraps!

This will be a great addition to diversify your store and services. So part 3 will be…

DIY Body Wraps

Each body wrap can have a different purpose, such as our FIT Bodywrap which is great for soft tissue repair and pain control. If you want to provide your own, make sure to label them so customers know what type of treatment they want if they are purchasing them from you. You should also provide them with instructions to get the most beneficial experience.

Instructions can include:

  • Be clean – remove all lotions, perfumes, dirt beforehand.
  • Heat retention is important – use warm sheets and towels.
  • Heat cotton strips in water to about 180 degrees F (80 degrees C)
  • Drink warm tea beforehand – to enhance warmth experience
  • Wrap self in warm robe or towel while relaxing for 20 minutes afterwards
  • Drink lots of water/tea to replenish the body’s fluids afterwards

The first DIY Body Wrap kit that you can make to sell or offer…

Mineralizing Seaweed Wrap

Seaweed is great for replenishing nutrients to the body such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, iodine, protein, phosphorous, copper, and other vitamins and amino acids. Seaweed

Ingredients include:

  1. 8 ounces of dried or powdered seaweed & enough water to make a paste or 3 ounces of fresh seaweed.
  2. A plastic sheet or Mylar (heat-resistant plastic sheet)
  3. Space heater (optional)

Lay the sheet on a bed table and set the space heater nearby and turn it on. Cover the entire body with the paste or fresh seaweed. Then wrap the entire body in the plastic sheet/blanket and relax for 20 mins. Rinse or wipe clean with warm and follow with either a hot sauna session or hot bath.

Ginger Lemongrass Detox & Rejuvenating Wrap

Lemongrass has invigorating and antiseptic properties, and ginger has stimulating and cleaning effects. Together, this makes a refreshing, yet medicinal ritual. This wrap is great for clients who have flu-like symptoms, colds, and respiratory ailments.

Ingredients for this kit include:

  1. ½ cup of dried lemongrass or 1 cup of fresh.
  2. Ginger root (about 3” in) grated or minced.
  3. 1 cooking pot with water
  4. 1 cotton or linen sheet cut into 3”in wide strips.
  5. A plastic sheet
  6. 1 blanket

In the cooking pot, place the lemongrass and grated ginger root and fill with water. Bring to a boil and let simmer for 5 minutes covered. Remove from heat and let sit for another 5 minutes. Strain the lemongrass and ginger as much as possible from the water and then add in your sheet strips and let seep for 5 minutes. As you remove the sheet strips one at a time, wring then out and snugly wrap the strips around the legs first, then arms, then torso. Once the body is completely wrapped snug, cover in the plastic sheet, then the blanket. Relax for 15 minutes and then remove and finish with wipes of warm water or shower.

Cellulite & Fat Reduction Wrap

This recipe contains ingredients such as caffeine to help boost your skin’s natural texture and glow. This will be a partial scrub to exfoliate your skin, and then wrap oil to hydrate after while you relax and sweat it out! Only apply these to the areas you want to improve.

The Scrub:

  1. 2 parts coconut oil
  2. 4 parts used coffee grounds
  3. Essential oil of choice (optional)

Use a wash cloth or mitt or rub a generous amount of this scrub all over your skin working in circular motions. Once the skin has been exfoliated, thoroughly clean off the scrub to remove leftover granules.

The Oil:

  1. 3 table spoons of Olive or coconut oil – hydrating base
  2. 1 tablespoon of Cayenne powder – great for pain relief too (skip if you have sensitive skin)
  3. 1 table spoon of Green tea powder – great diuretic and replenishing minerals (matcha)
  4. 2 tablespoons of Aloe – soothes and hydrates deeper skin tissue

Using this oil, apply one section at a time, then wrap with the plastic wrap (don’t wrap too tight) and then seal with elastic bandages. After desired areas have been covered, sweat it out for 1 hour. Unwrap, then take a room temperature shower and moisturize.

These simple recipes are great for you to try at home, make for your customers, or have as an extra service in your salon/spa. Make sure you remember the tips of inform your customers and to stay hydrated. If you try one of these out, let us know what you think!

If making these yourself seem too complicated, but you still want to provide a unique body wrap experience, see what the infrared treatments can do for you and your business!
